THE STEVE MURRAY 7 Steve Murray, Leader
The Steve Murray 7 (originally known as The Big Six Jazz Band) performs a special brand of Chicago style swing, Dixieland, and the standards of the 30's and 40's -- and it provides a musical backdrop for the very special tribute to "Satchmo" by trumpeter, Maurice Rancourt. The Steve Murray 7 has performed on cruise ships on Boston Harbor and the Hudson River. The band has performed at Tanglewood, for a gala 70th birthday party for Leonard Bernstein, and in nightspots from the Interlaken Inn in Lakeville, CT to the Equinox Hotel in Manchester, VT. The Steve Murray 7 has played hundreds of weddings and private parties, and in April of 1995, it appeared as a guest band on WAMC's "JazzFest," a two-hour live radio broadcast from Albany, NY. In 1996, the band returned to Tanglewood for a performance in Ozawa Hall with the Olga Dunn Dance Company. Now, with the return to the Berkshires of vocalist, Joan Marks, the ensemble's repertoire includes her wonderful renditions of the great American standards, and she adds a special touch when she teams up with trumpeter/singer Mo Rancourt to do some Satch and Ella duet recreations. Outdoors or in, casual or formal, The Steve Murray 7 is a great catalyst where the main idea is to have fun!
